Ankara, the present capital of Turkey, is located in the middle of Anatolian plateau at an altitude of 990 m. It covers an area of 30.715 kmē. About four million people reside in the metropolitan city.
Ankara is characterized by the continental climate. Therefore, the day and night temperatures vary highly. Although we experience winter for three months (December, January and February), early days of spring can also be cold. The average temperature at March is 5°C.
Groups arriving will be met at the airport by METU students and coordinators.
The international Esenboga Airport is 30km. north of the city center (about 40 km. from METU). Transportation is provided by HAVAŞ shuttle buses as well as taxis.
Middle East Technical University is founded in 1956 to contribute to the development of Turkey and Middle East countries. Since 1963 the University developed as the first university campus of Turkey. In 1956, the first academic program started in the Department of Architecture. Today, there are a total of 37 undergraduate programs in five faculties of engineering, education, arts and sciences, administrative sciences, and architecture (www.metu.edu.tr). The language of instruction at METU is English.
For the students of all four groups (40 students) rooms are confirmed in the same dormitory (Refik Aksoy dormitory), from March 5th to 16th for all except the German group which will stay over another night and leave March 17th.
