Revitalisation of a disengaged city area through the introduction of new urban functions and architectural interventions.

Site

Brugge West is an intra muros part of the city of Brugge, severed form the historical town centre by a huge square, Het Zand. At the moment Brugge West is dominated by a huge industry look alike hall, mainly used for trade fairs and related events.
Where Het Zand, because of the recent concert hall, rapidly is becoming the new cultural heart of the city, Brugge West slowly slides into oblivion.

Results

Based a master plan for Brugge West, developed by participants of the project, a high quality modular housing system for starters is presented. Sustainability and refurbishment will play a major role in the architectural designs.
